1976
- Gerhard Unger is founded by Process Engineer, Willie Niemann and Juergen Tuchenhagen.
- First manufacturing site built at Helvetia House, Edenvale.
- Development work begins on Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) and High Pressure Cleaning Systems for dairies and breweries.
1970’S- 1980’s
- Development continues as the first caramel and sugar dissolving plants for soft drinks are fabricated.
- First orders for margarine manufacturing plants are received.
- Brewing vessels for juices and wines are customised and fabricated for customers.
- Moved premises to Wilbart as larger workshops and offices were required.
1985 – 1990’s
- Sees the introduction of turnkey solutions for tanker and train washing, confectionery and syrups.
- Manufacturing facility moved to Grader Road in Sebenza.
- Gerhard Unger becomes part of The Mequip Group of Companies.
1999 – 2000’s
- The first plants for oils, bottling and beer maltings are manufactured. Gerhard Ungers sets up premises in Sigma Road, Germiston.
2014
- Awarded Runner up in the prestigious SASSDA Awards for the Mayonnaise Plant manufactured for Tiger Brands.
- Gerhard Unger moved to its current premises at 22 Makriel Road, Wadeville.
- Gerhard Unger celebrates 40 years of success in the manufacturing industry.
- Winner in the Stainless Steel industry flagship event, the SASSDA Awards, in the Food and Beverage category for the manufacture, installation and commission of 21 wet product conveyors for a product process plant.
- Runner Up in the SASSDA Awards Environmental category for the design and manufacture of a CIP skid for the CSIR.
2016 – 2021
- Under refreshed management, with a refined focus are Gerhard Unger continues to provide excellent solutions in process technologies.
2024
- Gerhard Unger Process Technology division is acquired by PSA Global Technology
- Whilst Gerhard Unger continues with it’s specialised engineering solutions – specifically Train and Road Tanker washing plants, specialised truck mounted mobile mixing units, light gauge tankage, fabrication and pipe work.
